Consider/Approve Central Cafeteria Food, Non-Food, Milk, Ice Cream, and Bread Bids for the 2009 - 2010 School Year

Preliminary Matters:

In addition to advertising, the Reelfoot Area Consortium solicited bids from:

  • Hardin’s-Sysco, U. S. Foods, Gordon Foodservice, and McCartney Produce for the purchase of food and non-food items;
  • Turner Holdings, Coleman Dairy, Goldenrod Dairy, and Purity Dairy for the purchase of milk;
  • Turner Holdings, Coleman Dairy, Goldenrod Dairy, and Purity Dairy for the purchase of ice cream; and,
  • Sara Lee Food and Beverage, Interstate Brands (Wonder/Hostess), and Lewis Bakeries (Bunny Bread) for the purchase of bread.

All of these items are for the 2009 – 2010 school year and funds will be budgeted in the FY10 Central Cafeteria Fund for these purchases. The Consortium received bids for these purchases, as attached, and determined that the low bids were submitted by:

  • U. S. Foods (Hardin’s-Sysco submitted a bid and McCartney Produce submitted a bid for produce only) for all food and non-food items;
  • Goldenrod Dairy (Turner Holdings submitted a bid also) for milk products;
  • Turner Holdings (only bidder) for ice cream products; and
  • Interstate Brands (only bidder) for bread products.

The consortium approved the low bids submitted as noted above; however, each individual school board must accept the bid.

Staff Recommendation:

I concur with the recommendations set forth by the Consortium and Ms. Judy Denman and recommend approval of the low bids as noted above.
